Church of St Leonard and St Catherine
The village church, dedicated to St Leonard and St Catherine, shows prominently as you approach the village. The 11th Century church was first an outlying chapel of Dorchester Abbey, that’s the century that the Normans moved the Bishop’s seat from Dorchester to Lincoln. Amazing. So Drayton (as it was named until the Victorian General Post Office needed to differentiate this Drayton from others) was close to an important seat of power. The village has continued to hang on to the coat-tails of important events ever since. At least that’s my as yet unproven theory. Scope for plenty of entries in this website every time something interesting comes up!
